SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services is asking the public to take the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) Planning Survey. The purpose of the needs assessment survey is to collect information to help improve community-based services and programs for residents ages 60 years and over, people living with disabilities, and caregivers. The deadline for responses is March 31.

“The public’s input is invaluable and is taken into consideration during the decision-making and program funding process,” said Somerset County Commissioner Paul M. Drake, Office on Aging and Disability Services liaison. “Some programs that were expanded and improved as a result of information collected from past surveys are home care services, caregiver support, nutrition programs, and the Home-Delivered Meals program. All programs are essential to our communities.”

Survey feedback has also made an impact on Somerset County Transportation routes and lunch menu options at senior centers.

“We discovered that the older adult population has become more diverse. As a result, we expanded the Nutrition and Wellness program by offering more menu choices of meat-based and meatless food,” said Office on Aging and Disability Services Executive Director Joanne Fetzko. “We also added spices to make meals more palatable. Our goal is for participants to get one third of their daily dietary allowance required for good health.”

All information given by survey participants will remain confidential. If there is more than one eligible member in the household, each person can complete a survey. Caregivers also can fill out the survey for individuals who are unable to complete the form.

Older Americans Act of 1965
In compliance with the Older Americans Act of 1965, the Office on Aging and Disability Services conducts a survey annually to determine the needs of the aging community and people with disabilities. The Office on Aging and Disability Services uses survey results in the Service Area Plan Contract, which is developed every three years and then submitted for approval to the State Department of Human Services Division of Aging Service. The Area Plan helps agencies identify needs and trends and implement programs and services to address those needs.
