This department also administers the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment. Close coordination is also maintained with the Agricultural Task Force, Community Service, Environmental Commission, Shade Tree Commission, and other Township Departments.

The Engineering Department administers all land use and construction work in the Township. The land use reviews range from an individual resident's zoning concern to the review of large-scale residential and commercial projects. The site inspection staff reviews all development and Township construction. The Engineering staff provides in-house designs for road maintenance, drainage, and bikeway/sidewalk programs. The Department also assists the Board of Education with some of their construction needs. Township tax and GIS data maps are also maintained by Engineering Department personnel.

The Department completed the engineering design and construction project management for resurfacing 5.2 miles of Township roads during 2018. These roads include:

  • Bedford Drive
  • Brook Ridge Drive
  • Byron Drive
  • Chaucer Court
  • Compton Court
  • Crest Drive
  • Dryden Road
  • Franklin Drive
  • Hansom Road (NJDOT Municipal Aid Grant)
  • Hessian Street
  • Lurline Drive
  • Marilyn Street
  • Marlborough Court

Lurline Drive, Hessian Street, Byron Drive, and Dryden Road received full granite block curb replacement on the full length of the roads.

Marilyn Street, Byron Drive, Dryden Road, and Washington Avenue (between West Oak Street and Interstate 287) were reconstructed using Full Depth Reclamation, which is a more environmentally friendly road reconstruction process that minimizes costs.

The storm sewer that runs through the intersection of Beechwood Road and North Brook Avenue was upgraded to include a second parallel storm sewer to alleviate flooding and drainage problems in the neighborhood. As part of this project, the associated section of roadway was reconstructed to include new granite block curbing and pavement section.

The Department also completed sidewalk repairs in various locations throughout the Township.

The Department also assisted Parks & Recreation with the resurfacing of the Rebel Hill Tennis Courts, as well as various minor site improvements to the courts.

The Department also began the replacement of several pedestrian bridges in the Township. The Lyons Road pedestrian bridge was replaced with a new bridge in 2018, and several other bridges will follow suit in 2019.
